1. DHONI DELIVERS WORLD CUP GLORY FOR INDIA

That's the Moment and there's the man. Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni promoted himself to No. 5 and hit an unbeaten 91 from 79 balls to steer India to glory against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final in Mumbai, ending a 28-year-long wait for the Indians.
"If we hadn't won, I would have been asked quite a few questions: why no Yuvraj, why did I bat ahead? That pushed me and motivated to do well. The pressure had got to me in the previous games. In this game, I wanted to bat up the order and Gary (Kirsten) backed me. I had a point to prove to myself." MS Dhoni during the post-match presentation.

2. O'BRIEN MAKES HISTORY IN IRELAND'S MOST FAMOUS NIGHT

March 2nd 2011 is a date that will live forever in Irish cricket history, as Kevin O’Brien put cricket on the front pages of their books with a stunning win over England. His century from 50 balls in Bangalore was the fastest-ever in World Cup history.

3. DWAYNE LEVEROCK’S STUNNING ONE HANDED CATCH

Wearing Number 99 on his back, a police-man by profession and weighing in at over 280 lb (127 kg) Bermuda’s Dwayne Leverock looked more at home in a rugby front row than a slip cordon – but India learned at the 2007 World Cup that looks can be deceiving.

4. KHAN LEADS FROM THE FRONT TO GIVE PAKISTAN GLORY IN '92

Pakistan had got off to a poor start in the 1992 World Cup, but turned its fortunes around remarkably. The final was against a well-oiled England side and it was Imran Khan who promoted himself up the order to score 72 as he led Pakistan to the title.


5. WHEN JONTY WENT AIRBORNE AND THE STUMPS WENT FLYING

Pakistan faced South Africa in 1992 and Pakistan's bowlers restricted South Africa to 211 for 7, Inzamam-ul-Haq found some form, and was shepherding the chase when he was spectacularly run out by Jonty Rhodes on 48, and Pakistan never recovered after that.


6. BANGLADESH SCORE FIRST BIG WIN IN '99.

In 1999, Bangladesh, previously winless against a major Test playing nation, stunned Pakistan, who were undefeated in the tournament, by 62 runs at Northampton. The match was a huge occasion for Bangladesh, with the win helping attain their Test status.


7. SACHIN TENDULKAR AT HIS VERY BEST

World Cup match-ups don’t come any bigger than India v Pakistan and with over a Billion people watching in 2003 Sachin Tendulkar played a truly brilliant World Cup innings at Centurion, one that he himself would rank as one of his very best. 8. SHOAIB AKHTAR, THE 100MPH THUNDERBOLT

He had done it unofficially in New Zealand the year before, but when Shoaib Akhtar bowled one at 100.23 mph at England’s Nick Knight during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, it was as official as it could get and the legend of 'Da Fastest Bowler' was born!


9. CRICKET IN COLOUR - THE 1992 WORLD CUP


The 1992 World Cup was the first event to have matches played under floodlights, white balls and coloured jerseys with their names on the back. Only two players were allowed to field outside the ring in the first 15 overs and 'Crictainment' was born.


10. “YOU'VE JUST DROPPED THE WORLD CUP, MATE”

It was the Super Sixes clash in 1999, chasing 272 Australia had to win. Captain Steve Waugh was on 56 and he offered a simple chance to Herschelle Gibbs at mid-wicket. Gibbs caught it but in his excitement to throw it up in celebration, dropped the ball and even their chances at the World Cup.
